Coffee history

The history of coffee is based on legends and beliefs as there are only a few facts on the real coffee history. According to the most spread legend, the energy qualities of coffee were discovered by the Ethiopia herdsman who noticed that after his goats ate the berries of the coffee tree, they became very active and excited.

First people started to use the berries of coffee tree as energy food and didn't use the drink made of its granules. With the lapse of time people of Yemen started to make the drink of the dry pulp of coffee granules. The result was so called white Yemen coffee.

When Ethiopians were driven away from the Arabia peninsula in 11th century, the tradition to drink coffee was left. First Arabs used other methods of coffee making that were not rather similar to the modern ones. They were pressing the coffee granules and were adding the animal fat and milk to it. And from the got mass, they were making the rolls that were taken into the travelling as vitamins.

And only in the 12th century people started to make the drink from coffee tree fruits. And 100 years later Arabs learned to dry the granules, fry them and grind them. And the got powder was mixed with hot water, Arabs added different spices to it from ginger to cinnamon. It was also mixed with milk.

In 18th century Europeans brought coffee to tropical countries and spread it all over the world.
